Fastening Faults
| A string can not vibrate freely all the way to its ends. The string is fastened hard in both the nut and the bridge, much harder than we can press it down with our soft finger tips. Also a string is stiff. The stiffness obstructs the vibrations close to the hard fastening in the ends. Consequently the vibrating part of the string is shorter than the distance between the nut and the bridge. This fault is corrected by increasing the distance between the nut and the bridge so that the vibrating part of the string is positioned correctly above the fretboard. |
